Redken Body Full Shampoo and Conditioner

I wrote about both the shampoo and conditioner back in August 2008. I loved it then and I love it now. I'm thinking that Redken has just about the most fabulous line of haircare products for the thin haired ladies out there. 2 days ago someone commented on my hair and how nice it was looking. Love it!

Umberto Beverly Hills

Umberto Beverly Hills
Regular Hold Hairspray

Lightweight, pleasant scent. Holds your hair without making it stiff and crunchy. Lasts all day, and doesn't flake or goop up. Perfect for every day styling. Oh, and right now Target has a great deal on a two pack!

Blow - the perfect shower cap

I often use shower caps to keep my newly styled look dry in the shower. Up until now, I am ashamed to admit, I had been using hotel shower caps. NO MORE. This shower cap is like no other. We are talking large enough for long hair, super soft on the inside, and it really seals out moisture. The terry cloth lining is well worth it. The case it comes in makes it easy to keep clean and take with you!

Lavender Conditioner
LOVE the large pump bottle for my shower! The directions actually say use 8-15 pumps or use 1-2 pumps and leave in. I first tried the 8 pumps and WHOA was that a lot of conditioner! It smells wonderful and makes your head tingle. Make sure you leave it in for 3-5 minutes. The second time I used it, I tried 3 pumps and felt that it was still enough. Thick and creamy, it makes your hair soft and smooth. The best part is that it is sold on QVC.

ECRU New York Marine Styling Balm

This soft and sticky free gel works pretty well in my fine/thin hair. The scent is similar to Cool Water but much lighter. After the shower, I put a smidge in and blow dry. It fattens up the strands and holds curling iron curls. Best part, my hair doesn't feel heavy or gloppy. Yay!

Marcel me!

If you like a more structured curl, Sam Villa is here to help!

Sam Villa's TEXTUR™ Pin Set - his favorite technique for achieving an intense amount of volume. Note: This technique can be done with either the Sam Villa Signature Series SLEEKR™ or TEXTUR™. Use TEXTUR™ to create more character and volume.

TEXTUR™ Pin Set

1. Take a small section of hair and spray from a distance with Redken hot sets 22 thermal setting mist and comb through

2. Open a large hairpin (the more flexible, the better) and stretch the sides apart (making the shape of the letter A)

3. Hold pin at the joint with the thumb and index finger and place the joint over the section of hair a couple inches from the base of the head

4. Wrap hair in a figure 8 pattern (over, under, through and around) and twist twice at the end (any more and it will be difficult to remove)

5. Compress section with the Sam Villa Signature Series TEXTUR™ or SLEEKR™

6. Let cool, untwist the hairpin, straighten legs and slide pin out to reveal a textured “S” set

7. Break up texture with fingers and finish with Redken forceful 23 super strength finishing spray

Hair How-to from Pureology

The holiday season is rapidly approaching and Pureology knows how to take you there in style. Pureology PureArtists give the must-have hair trends this upcoming season and how to achieve them with Pureology stylers.
Finger Waves
1. Set hair vertically using a vertical iron or hot roller placement, moving curls away from the face and allow curls to cool.
2. Break curls apart with fingers using DryShine HairStyler to define and add shine.
3. Finish with InCharge Flexible Styling Spray.
4. Add GlossingMist for final touch of shine.
Chignon
1. Blow dry hair smooth with PureVolume BlowDryAmplifier and PureVolume ThickeningMist to create thickness and volume.
2. Pull hair back into a ponytail just below the occipital bone, using Hydrate ShineMax to polish and control static. Secure pony with an elastic.
3. Mist each section of ponytail with InCharge Flexible Holding Spray. Curl pony with large 1" barrel iron. Let curls cool completely.
4. Break curls apart using TextureTwist throughout the pony to add dimension and control.
5. Pin sections of pony with closed fasteners until desired shape is formed.
6. Finish with InChargePlus Firm Finishing Spray.
Sleek and Chic
1. Create a ponytail at the top of the head using DryShine HairStyler for an ultra sleek gloss with hold (be careful not to let DryShine HairStyler touch hair ends). Secure with an elastic.
2. Divide ponytail in half for medium density or into three sections for thick density.
3. Polish the first section with NanoWorks ShineLuxe until you create a clean, shiny ribbon of hair.
4. Create a large flat pin curl with ribbon of hair using InChargePlus Firm Finishing Spray to give some moldability; secure ends over base of ponytail.
5. Repeat step 3 with remaining section or sections, creating a looping effect at the back of the head.
6. Finish look with GlossingMist.

Ecru New York Silk Nourishing Cream

This leave-in conditioner rocks!

Goes on easily after shower, lets me comb through without snags.
Not so heavy that my hair becomes greasy mess-- even washing every other day.
My hair just feels nice.

Light scent (generic hair product-ish, not that salon-of-death smell).
Faster and easier for me to use than conditioner (I don't like to open my eyes during morning shower--still asleep!).
Just a little bit & my hair is soft & nice!!!

PUREOLOGY SUPER SMOOTH Shampoo and Conditioner, Relaxing Hair Masque, and Smoothing Elixir

Pureology has done it again! If you love feeling like you've just left the salon with every wash, then this brand is for you. These 100% Vegan and 100% gentle products have got me hooked. And if your hair reacts like mine does to humidity and harsh, hot, styling tools, you will LOVE the Super Smooth line.

The Super Smooth Shampoo and Conditioner have a light, feminine scent and like all Pureology products, enhance and extend color treatment. In humidity, my hair normally turns to a frizzy mess-whether I've straightened it, curled it, or let it air dry. With Super Smooth products in my hair, I stay in control and my hair does what I want!

I love the Super Smooth Smoothing Elixir for days when I want my hair to stay straight and shiny. I apply it to my damp hair, blow my hair dry, and style with a straightening iron and this beautiful product keeps my style looking crisp from start to finish.

Finally, Pureology's Super Smooth Relaxing Hair Masque is a fantastic way to replenish your color treated, heat styled, damaged, tired hair. This thick, delicious, deep conditioner is a once a week treat I cannot resist.

You will simply LOVE the way you look, feel, and smell with these antifade, antifrizz, antidisappoinment products!

Sebastian Shine Define Hairspray

Sebastian
Shine Define Hairspray

I absolutely LOVE the Sebastian line of hair products. The Shine Define hairspray is light, and smells wonderful. I have had several people tell me that my hair smells good when I use it. It doesn't make your hair crunchy, but still holds my curls. Definitely a good product to have around for those hot and humid days!

Redken layer lift 07

I had high hopes for this but they fell short. It smells great and the texture is light and non-tacky. Yet it didn't do a thing for my extremely fine, thin hair when it says I'm the ideal candidate. I have longer layers and I saw no difference when I used this.

Ecru New York Silk Nectar Serum

Hello, smooth & soft hair.
Welcome, lovey, not greasy, shine.

I finish with this after I flat-iron.

If I'm too lazy to do anything else, this does make my hair less likely to extreme-frizz
in this lovely fall humidity (think Monica's hair at the Paleontology conference).

& it even smells nice--slightly fruity.

Sam Villa SLEEKR Thermo Tool

Thermal Tool is fancy-speak for "gets hot."

The SLEEKR flat iron from Sam Villa is, in a word, AWESOME!!!

I love, love, love it!!!

Ceramic plates, light, comfortable, three heat levels. incredible smoothing power.

The narrow plates and beveled edges even let me turn my hair under! This could be the thing that pushes me full-on into being a high-maintenance-type girl, except that it is super easy to use. The 1st time I used it, I straightened my whole mass of hair in about 10 minutes. It even smooths the hair in the back of my head, which has a tendency to stick straight out.

Thank you, Sam Villa. I think you are a genius.

Redken: Blonde Glam Color Enhancer Conditioner

From BROWNSQUARED:

This product is great. There are various formulas for varying shades of blond and each one makes your hair silky and shiny. This particular formula is for warm blond and highlights and is vanilla flavored.

If you are like me, and like to keep your highlights up to date and avoid dark roots, this product will condition your treated hair and extend time between salon appointments!

Blow

Mane Tame Soft Pomade

This finishing creme purpose in life eludes me. I was hoping it would add shine and a bit of light control. What I got was an undesirable increase in the waviness and a halo of soft frizz. I have medium hair with a big natural wave, that I tame daily with a flat iron. This product defeated all of those efforts. I also found it to be a tad greasy.

Beach Blow

If you are looking to re-create Darryl Hannah's 'do in Splash, this product will get you there! On my hair, it brought out relaxed waves and gave it a beachy, saltwater crunchiness. If my hair were just a bit longer, I'd put down the flat iron, spritz on Beach Blow, and embrace the Carrie Bradshaw Hampton's look.

Terax Original Crema Ultra Conditioner

My new gold-standard in conditioner!

I have a LOT of hair. A ton of super-thick strands. When I dye my hair at home, I need 2 boxes. With this conditioner, I really only need the dime-sized amount!

Hair feels great, not at all waxy. Love the results and the lack of build-up!

Go to amazon.com & order this NOW! Will last you for ages.

Terax: Life Drops Leave-in conditioner

Terax Hair Care Life Drops Leave-In Protein Conditioner

Leave-In conditioner that makes your hair happy!

It's a conditioner & de-frizzing agent in one gloriously easy application.

My hair is so soft and silky and SMOOTH--during a Michigan July!

One bottle will last a good long time, you only need a couple of drops, so it is economically sound.
Very neutral scent, a light green-vanilla.

So worth it! You can even get it from Amazon.com, so have it sent with your next book order.

Calista TOOLS Texturizing Definer

A little goes a long way with this cream definer. I used it on both wet and dry hair to see if it would do something for me. Unfortunately it didn't do a thing. I'm sure it's because my hair has zero natural wave or texture. Sorry, folks.

Sebastian Trilliant

Trilliant is brilliant!
Keeps hair from frizzing out--a BIG deal in Michigan summers--and adds shine and dimension.
There's mica in it!
I love it & recommend it highly.
Just mist a little into your hands & work through your (damp) hair.
If you are a pro-sprayer, you could spritz directly onto your hair, but I am not that advanced.
Light, beachy scent.

Pureology-Serious Colour Care, AntiFade Complex (2)

Dandruff Scalp Cure Shampoo:

I've been dealing with some itchy scalp, occassional dandruff for about a year now. And I have medium-dark brown hair that gets very light (which I hate!) in the sun. So I was super excited to try this line from Pureology. While my scalp wasn't helped much, my hair has so far maintained it's color, and that makes me happy! I didn't realize when I began testing this product that the entire line is vegan and organic - now I'm super happy (having just returned to a vegetarian lifestyle). The scent on this product is pleasant - not at all perfumey. The lather is beyond amazing! It's very thick out of the bottle, which tells me that you are wasting very little money on H2O when you buy this product - always good. If I were to change anything, it would be the bottle design. The body is sort of elliptical with a very long neck, and squeezing out product becomes a little difficult when you get mid-way through the contents. But this was easily remedied by removing the cap.

Dandruff Scalp Cure Hair Conditioner:

Just the right amount of conditioning without making hair too soft to style.

Summary:
Out of 3 stars, this would be a 2. It's a great line, I love the scent and consistency, I just wish it did a better job on the dry & itchy scalp.

Pureology-Serious Colour Care, AntiFade Complex

Essential Repair Shampoo & Conditioner:
This organic, fresh scented hair care system does not only keep color treated hair soft, manageable, and fresh looking, but my hair stylish swears that it made my hair grow faster in between treatments. She also commented that my highlights stayed brighter longer since I've started to use Pureology.
Essential Repair Instant Repair Leave-in Conditioner:
A little goes a long way with this product-one bottle seems everlasting. This leave-in gives me less fly aways and softer hair. I'd marry this stuff if I could.
Essential Repair Colour Max UV Hair Colour Defense:
I am a soccer player, a gardener, and an avid puppy walker, so my stylist was excited to hear that I was using this product to protect my locks from sun damage. She's the pro, but I can definitely notice a difference in my highlights this year-they are less brassy and have really lasted longer than usual since using UV Colour Defense.
Essential Repair Split End Correcting Treatment:
With all of the coloring and heat I use in my hair, I usually receive a trim (accompanied with a lecture) monthly. Since using this blessing in a bottle, I was able to skip my last cut!
I will continue to use this system because of it's never ending benefits, amazing scent, and organic ingredients. I'm hooked!

Summer IS coming!

You may be ready for the heat & humidity, but is your hair?
Get beautiful hair all year with expert advice:

SUMMER HAIR TIPS BY KENEESHA HUDSON of URBANBELLA (www.urbanbella.com
  • How to Fight Frizz!
Naturally frizzy hair is best controlled while it is wet.  Frizz can be greatly reduced by applying frizz control gels and mousses right after you have rinsed out any hair conditioner, essentially while your hair is still wet.  You do NOT want to towel dry your hair, as the friction of the towel against your locks just adds to frizz.
For the summer months, you want any frizz control product to be as lightweight as possible. The ingredient you want to look for in a good gel is Polyquaternum, a polymer that makes the strands of hair bond together and give a nice hold.  The result is hair that looks sleeker, and more defined, as opposed to frizzy strands flying all over the place!

  • Can Your Hair Handle the Heat?
Everyone’s first reaction when dealing with frizzy summer hair is to whip out the straightening iron.  This leads to heat damage and just makes hair dryer and frizzier.  If you must use heating tools, be sure to take the necessary precautions to protect your locks.  Look for thermal protectant products containing amodimethicone and dimethicone.  These ingredients provide a protective film on the hair cuticle that prevents water loss and keeps the cuticle from cracking and breaking.  Apply these products to hair before heat styling.
  • Don’t Sweat It!
Whether you’re hitting the gym, or just window shopping in 90 degree heat, the sweat from your scalp will lead to hair oiliness.  When you don’t have time to take a shower (and remember that over washing will lead to more dryness) the best way to fight oiliness is by using a refreshing spray.  They leave hair feeling and smelling fresh and clean as well as adding volume without requiring a shampoo.
  • Limp Locks
To keep curls bouncy and plump, use products that contain keratin, a natural thickening protein found in hair.  This product can be found in thickening shampoos and volumizing sprays. These products also thicken and lift hair with natural alcohols such as Beetroot Alcohol.
  • Chlorine Damage Detox
Chlorine sucks up the sebum (your hair’s natural oil and protective barrier) from the hair, leading to dry and cracked hair cuticles.  Before you get in the pool, pre-treat hair with a conditioner that contains oil extracts.  The chlorine will suck up the oils found in the conditioner before it soaks up the natural oils in your hair.  This significantly reduces chlorine damage.  Apply the conditioner or spray liberally, concentrating on the ends of hair.
After you expose your hair to chlorine, wash it with a chlorine specific detoxifying shampoo to remove chlorine.  Because shampoos like these can be slightly harsh, I recommend following up with a soft, gentle moisturizing shampoo that  restores moisture to the hair. Finish off with a great, moisturizing conditioner.
  • Heat-Free Styling Tips!
Try these tips for air drying:
Use lighter styling aids such as mousse and light gels for faster air drying time.  Gently squeeze excess water out of the hair after applying styling aids to reduce air drying time.  Remember, avoid towel drying!!
Some really cute hair styles can be achieved without having to put a hair dryer, straighter, or curlers to your hair.   The three I mention below give really beautiful beach beauty waves that work with summer humidity and heat instead of fighting it:
-       While hair is still wet, apply your light gel or mousse, and simply wrap hair into a bun on top of your head.  After hair has dried at least 60%, remove bun and you’ll have soft and beautiful waves.
-       Another way to achieve that beach-y look, twirl damp hair around your finger, applying styling gel as you go along.
For the easiest way to get those waves, simply put your wet hair in braids, let dry, unbraid and voila!

Sebastian: Halo Mist

Shine Spray
I'm not much on hair products, I am more a wash-&-go kind of girl.
This time of year is no good for me, all this humidity=big, frizzy hair.
So, I need a little something-something to keep my hair from eclipsing the sky, but not too much, because I am prone to the greasies.
This is perfect, a light mist of smoothing goodness.
Totally neutral smell, and with UV-filter!

Next on my list, TRILLIANT!
Starting in May, there's a special multi-pack available for $47:
Sebastian Professional Trilliant Thermal Protection and Shimmer Complex
Sebastian Professional Light Shampoo & Conditioner
and a Limited Edition t-shirt, designed by Charlotte Ronson!

Jack Black-True Volume Revitalizing Conditioner

This product promises to "form a barrier against sun and polutnats while adding essential moisture and shine to hair". Well, here in Michigan we have not had much sun as of late, so perhaps we'll test that affect again later in the season.
I did love the smell of this stuff-Avocado and Pomegranate, but moisture and shine I did not see. I feel that the test of a great conditioner is feeling well....conditioned! And I didn't. On the bright side, my husband really liked the lack of shine and moisture this product gave his hair.

He says: Awesome. I love it.

She says: It smells great, but nah...not impressed.

Solavie Shampoo/Bath Gel, Conditioner/Styling Gel

First off, the idea that the shampoo/bath gel and the conditioner/styling gel click together to make an easy unit, is a fabulous idea. This is ideal for traveling, to save shower space and time with the double two in one. The shampoo/bath gel smells very clean. It'd be perfect for summer on a really hot day. With each product containing phyto-nutrients and anti-oxidants to "combat environmental assault and stress," I feel like I'm protecting my hair in Chicago's grimy urban environment. It left my hair soft and easy to work with. The conditioner/styling gel made my tangly hair comb-able. This stuff is great!

Lamas REPAIR ME Conditioning Detangling Mist

This gave me great texture after I washed my hair. The scent is citrusy and sort of aromatherapy-very pleasant. After a few sprays, I was able to get a comb through my hair without issue. It's lightweight and ideal if you're short on time.

Redken Overnight Treat

Redken
Real Control

Overnight Treat Night Recovery Treatment

For those of us who take the time to style our hair, this is a must have. It is a thick and creamy lotion that you put in your hair at night. It doesn't matter if your hair is wet or dry. You just put it in and go to sleep while it works its magic. Redken's Overnight Treat will not stain your pillow. It makes your hair feel amazingly soft when you wake up. You can keep it in all day or rinse it out in the morning. After a couple of uses, your hair looks shiny, healthy and is more manageable.

Redken Extreme Iron Repair

Redken
Extreme Iron Repair

This fruity smelling lotion helps repair damaged hair. Apply to towel dried hair before blow drying and styling. Lightweight lotion, makes your hair feel smooth and strong. Great product that helps make your dry hair feel healthier. I would definitely recommend this product for anyone who frequently uses hair dryers, curling/flat irons.

emmett cooper HAIRCARE detangler tonic

emmett cooper HAIRCARE
detangler tonic

Easy to use right out of the shower before other styling products. Do not need to apply a lot for it to be effective. Small amounts work best. Too much may make your hair feel coated. Detangles instantly without a lot of effort. Great for all hair types.

Redken Iron Silk 07 Ultra Staightening Spray

From JenB.:
I've only used it on my daughter when using a flat iron--works great at keeping it smooth. Definitely kept her hair flat, but shiny and healthy looking. I don't use it often, but it does seem to work.

Redken Fabricate 03 Heat-Active Texturizer

From JenB:
This is fantastic!!
It seemed to add texture when I needed it when styling w/the blow dryer.
It was very light, it actually felt like I wasn't using any product--no buildup or residue.
I also used it on my daughter when using a flat iron and it worked great on keeping the style there without frizz.

emi Remington AirWave Style System

This is a nice blow dryer-not too big-not too small. Gets the job done. The AirWave system is interesting. After putting on the attachment, you slide sections of hair into the attachment, turn it on and the air whips and spins your hair into almost faux dreads. Odd but kind of cool. It would be time consuming if you had a bunch of hair. It's best for straight, fine haired gals.

New York Streets Hair Culture Collection

New York Streets
Hair Culture Collection

Liquid Shine

You definitely do not need a lot of this serum to notice the shine. Just a dab will do. Adds a nice, subtle, non-greasy shine to your hair. Also keeps "fly aways" in check and protects from damage. My co-workers noticed the difference the first day I used it. Be careful not to use too much.

Garnier Fructis Curl Sculpting Cream Gel

Garnier Fructis Style
Curl Sculpting Cream Gel
Bouncy Curls/Frizz Control

I usually use foams for my curly hair because some gels tend to make my curly hair "crunchy." The Curl Sculpting Cream Gel is definitely creamy and not like a gel at all. Smells like apples the instant you open the cap and the fruity smell makes my hair smell great. Goes on thick and smooth. I have been able to put some in and let my hair air dry without any problems. I have also used this gel when I straightened my hair and loved it. It takes away the frizziness of my normally curly hair. No crunchiness, plenty of curls, and no frizz. This is a great product to invest in.

Emmett Cooper Haircare Colour Support Wash (shampoo)

From BrownSquared:

My husband and I do everything together. Luckily, he is blonde, and I am brunette at the moment, so we were able to try both varieties of this product.

He said: If you can get over the fact that this stuff is purple, it's a really great shampoo. I hate going to the salon, so I was pumped about having my highlights last a little longer. It not only made them stick around a while, but made them more noticeable. I'd use this again. And again.

She said: The first few days I used the Brunette Shampoo, I had at least four women at work ask me if I colored my hair again. It gave my blonde-dyed-brown hair a color boost, which is awesome, since I'm addicted to constantly coloring my hair. I'd use this regularly to stretch out salon visits.

Pureology Pure Volume Thickening Mist

This pleasant fruit-scented spray was slightly tacky once in my hair. After blow-drying and styling as usual I did see somewhat of a new fullness and bulk to my coif.
